IN his fifth public statement in a week on the issue, US President Donald Trump claimed Saturday that the Biden administration allocated $18 million in funding to India to help with its elections. His remarks came at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) after he has attacked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for what his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) listed as $21 million in funding to India for “voter turnout” channelled via the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), a group based in Washington, DC. On February 20, The Indian Express had reported that USAID never funded CEPPS for any project in India and that a $21 million USAID-CEPPS grant was sanctioned for a voter program in Bangladesh.
